This month we are very happy to feature the creative and multi-talented Karen Chau. Karen has been on our radar for a long time now, always popping up for a chat in our instagram feed and constantly posting delicious homemade food pics.
We loaded Karen up with a big bag of our Biodynamic soup mix and asked her to produce some of her signature nutritious creations, and we weren't disappointed!
Karen is an absolute dynamo so we've put together the piece below to get everyone up to speed on what she is currently up to...
From a young age, Karen loved all aspects of the arts, dividing her time between drawing, music and theatre. Eventually design won out, her passion for illustration, photography and design flourishing over the years. Today, she holds an honours degree in Communication Design and works as a Freelance Designer within areas of branding, identity, styling, illustration, social and visual communication.
She balances many hours immersed in design with a love for food and browsing markets, in the quest for inspiring fresh products and ideas to create new meals. With a love for different flavours, culture, and cooking, she innovates and experiments with recipe ideas that burst with flavour while endorsing a healthy twist, cultivating an expressive approach to food styling and photography. Thus, bringing together a love of food and creativity; focusing on taste, approachable easy-to-follow recipes to cook up at home, and finding fun ways to work with everyday wholefoods.
Karen is also Co-Founder of Melbourne-based wellness company, HEAL’R - healr.com.au, currently spicing up the market with the introduction of the first organic turmeric spice blend with dandelion root, Root’d by Heal’r.
Root’d balances taste with health for a delicious blend of seven organic herbs and spices: turmeric, black pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, coconut sugar, dandelion root and chicory root.
The benefits of Root’d are vast and varied. Root’d can improve your gut health, bloating, skin disorders, heart disease, arthritis, inflammation, infections and liver detoxification, to name a few. Turmeric, ginger, dandelion root and black pepper have been proven to have anti-inflammatory and anti-aging benefits. The unique addition of dandelion root increases liver function and digestion.
Created to encourage, inspire and educate, Heal’r began as a discussion between professionals and clients who spent years seeking answers to their own health questions. It quickly evolved into a company that is passionate about providing a point of difference in the health and wellness industry.
The point of difference of Heal’r is the underlying philosophy of the company; that a complete picture of health is made up of four components: Nutritional, Emotional, Physical and Optimal. Often too much emphasis is placed on one of these components, however Heal’r inspires others to see that no one element is more important than another. All four must be equally balanced to achieve consistent health and wellbeing.
Root’d is made from 100% raw, certified organic ingredients which means no nasties, pesticides, artificial flavours or colours. The product is free of gluten, dairy, nuts, refined sugars and caffeine. It is also vegan and paleo friendly.
